About this tender

Castoldi - what we know.

The Castoldi Jet Tender 34 is the largest model in the Castoldi range and the only one in the line built around a twin-engine, twin-waterjet driveline. At 10.5m and 2.80m beam, sixteen on the CE plate and 700 litres of fuel, it is the build we recommend when an owner wants the Castoldi character at full guest capacity, full speed, and full deck volume.

Twin 440hp diesels paired with two Castoldi Turbodrive units deliver 43 to 50 knots depending on configuration. The S version, with the larger Turbodrive 284 H.C.T. units, is the performance specification. The standard variant runs Turbodrive 240 H.C.T. units, simpler service and slightly lower top end. Either way, it is a serious platform for a 90-120m superyacht programme, with a hardtop convertible roof on most builds and joystick docking as part of the package.

Highlights

Built for the work.

The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.

01

Twin-engine, twin-waterjet flagship

Two 440hp diesels driving two Castoldi waterjets. The S configuration uses Turbodrive 284 H.C.T. units for the higher top end, the standard variant runs Turbodrive 240 H.C.T. The redundancy of twin-engine running is a real factor on long shore transfers.

02

43 to 50 knots in service

Castoldi quote 43 knots light loaded on the standard JT34 and 50 knots on the S version, dropping to 38 and 45 knots respectively at full passenger and stores load. That sits the JT34 at the upper edge of what we would call a tender, edging into chase-boat territory in the S configuration.

03

Convertible hardtop, joystick docking

Most builds spec the retractable watertight soft-top hardtop, which keeps stowed height down for garage stowage and gives weather protection on long runs. Joystick piloting comes through the Castoldi twin-jet steering controller, a real benefit when a captain is putting a sixteen-guest boat against the swim step single-handed.

04

Sixteen guests on a 10.5m hull

CE Cat C plate for sixteen passengers, with payload up to 1,650 kg standard or 1,900 kg on the S version. Dry weight runs 3,740 kg standard, 4,100 kg S, with full fluids in engine and waterjet. The bigger envelope is what makes a sixteen-guest day-boat layout work without crowding.

Questions, answered

Before you enquire.

Standard JT34 or the S version, which one to specify?
The S version is worth the premium when the programme calls for genuine 50-knot capability and the owner is prepared for the higher fuel burn and slightly more involved service on the larger Turbodrive 284 units. For most luxury tender duty, the standard JT34 at 43 knots is the right answer, lower running cost, simpler service, same hull and same guest experience.
Will a JT34 fit my garage?
10.5m by 2.8m by roughly 2.5m stowed with the convertible roof down is the working envelope. That fits the dedicated tender garages on most yachts above 90m. Below that, the JT34 typically sits as a beach-stowed primary tender or alongside a smaller secondary boat. Check the manufacturer drawing against the GA early in the build, the convertible roof geometry is the limiting dimension.
How does the JT34 compare to a custom 10m limousine?
The JT34 is a series-built platform, which means a known lead time, predictable cost, parts available and a hull that has been refined across many builds. A custom 10m limousine from Pascoe, Vikal or Compass starts higher on cost and lead time, and trades the series-build advantages for full bespoke layout. We have specified both, the choice is usually about how much the layout has to be unique to the owner.

Albairate, Italy

Castoldi is an Italian manufacturer headquartered in Albairate, in the Milan metropolitan area of Lombardy. The company has been developing waterjet propulsion since the early 1960s, with the first mass-produced Castoldi waterjet unit presented at the Genoa Boat Show in 1969. Today more than 40,000 Castoldi hydrojet units operate worldwide, across civilian, military, and commercial fleets.

The range we ask Castoldi for runs from compact garage-fit tenders at 4.3m right through to the flagship Jet Tender 34 at 10.5m - sixteen passengers, twin 440 hp diesels paired to twin Turbodrive waterjet units, and a certified top speed of 50 knots. Every model in between follows the same build logic: deep-V hulls hand-laid in Kevlar and vinylester resin, Castoldi's own Turbodrive waterjet drives manufactured in-house, and a package of practical details - retractable helms, self-bailing cockpits, and walkthrough deck layouts - that captains value on a working programme.

The propeller-free drivetrain is the defining feature of any Castoldi. No exposed rotating parts below the keel means safe operation around swimmers and watersport guests; zero draft restriction means beach landings and sand-bank crossings that a conventional-drive tender cannot attempt. SOLAS-certified rescue versions (JT 14 RB, JT 18 RB, JT 19 RB) sit alongside the standard tender line, so owners running a dual-purpose programme can specify a single platform. We'd put the mid-range JT 21 through JT 28 models alongside the main European jet-tender alternatives: the build quality is consistent, the proprietary waterjet technology is genuinely in-house, and the range breadth covers most mothership garage sizes without compromise.
