About this tender

Axopar 38 XC Cross Cabin - what we know.

The Axopar 38 XC Cross Cabin is the boat we point captains towards when a programme needs a capable, enclosed day-runner that can be davit-launched from a larger yacht without demanding a full chase-boat berth. The XC Cross Cabin variant adds a proper enclosed helm station and a cross-cabin layout below, which lifts it clear of the open-tender category and gives guests somewhere to shelter on a longer coastal run.

Axopar builds in Finland on a GRP hull that has earned a strong reputation for consistent quality across a broad dealer network. The 38 sits at the top of the core range, below the 45 series, and the XC bodystyle is the most practical of the three 38 variants for a superyacht support role - the enclosed forward cabin adds usable overnight or rest space, and the walk-around side decks keep handling straightforward at anchor.

The source page does not publish hard performance or dimensional figures directly, so we would direct project managers to request the full specification sheet from an Axopar dealer before committing to a davit or chock arrangement. What the range page does confirm is outboard propulsion and a GRP construction philosophy that keeps weight manageable and maintenance accessible in remote locations.

Highlights

Built for the work.

The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.

01

Enclosed cross-cabin layout

The XC Cross Cabin configuration provides a fully enclosed helm station combined with a forward cabin below deck. For a superyacht tender role this means guests have a sheltered space on longer transfers, and the crew has a protected helm in deteriorating weather - a meaningful step up from the Sun Top variant.

02

Outboard propulsion for simplicity

Outboard mounting keeps the engine outside the hull, simplifying servicing in remote anchorages and reducing internal bilge complexity. For a yacht support programme where the tender may be left unattended for extended periods, that accessibility is a practical advantage over sterndrive or shaft installations.

03

Walk-around deck access

The walk-around side decks are a consistent feature of the XC bodystyle across the Axopar range. They allow crew to move safely from helm to bow at anchor or alongside, which matters when handling lines or assisting guests onto a swim platform or dock.

04

Finnish build consistency

Axopar's production is centralised in Finland, which means build quality is repeatable across hulls rather than dependent on individual craftsmen. Captains who have taken delivery of one example from the range report that fit and finish tolerances are consistent, and the dealer network is broad enough to source parts in most European cruising grounds.

Questions, answered

Before you enquire.

Is the Axopar 38 XC Cross Cabin suitable as a superyacht tender?
It sits in a capable position for yachts where a full chase boat is not required. The enclosed helm and forward cabin make it more practical than an open tender for guest transfers in variable conditions. Davit or chock compatibility will depend on the vessel's lifting capacity and the outboard configuration chosen.
What does the XC Cross Cabin layout offer over the Sun Top variant?
The XC Cross Cabin adds a fully enclosed helm station and a forward cabin below deck. The Sun Top provides only a partial overhead structure. For a yacht support role the XC is the more practical choice when shelter for guests or overnight accommodation for crew is a requirement.
What propulsion options are available on the Axopar 38 XC?
The 38 range uses outboard engines mounted on the transom. Specific engine make, model, and horsepower options are not published on the source page; we would recommend contacting an Axopar dealer for the current engine option list, as configurations change between model years.
Where is the Axopar 38 XC Cross Cabin built?
Axopar builds its range in Finland. Production is centralised, which supports consistent build quality across hulls. GRP construction is used throughout the 38 range.
Are hard performance figures published for the Axopar 38 XC Cross Cabin?
The manufacturer's model page does not publish top speed, range, or dimensional figures directly. A full specification sheet with LOA, beam, draft, weight, and engine options is available through the Axopar dealer network or on request from the yard.

Axopar

Helsinki, Finland

Axopar is a Finnish boat brand founded in 2014 by Jan-Erik Viitala and Sakari Mattila, whose combined pedigree spans Aquador, XO Boats, and Paragon - the source of the Axopar name. Headquarters sit in Helsinki, with a creative and innovation base in Vaasa and production running across two plants in Poland. The range covers 22 ft through to 45 ft (13.91m), built entirely around outboard propulsion, twin-stepped deep-V hulls, and a modular deck philosophy that lets your programme configure the same platform across open, T-Top, Sun Top, Cross Top, and Cross Cabin layouts without re-engineering the hull.

In the superyacht tender and chase-boat segment, the 37 and 45 are the builds we are asked about most. The 45 XC Cross Cabin carries 16 guests at coastal certification, runs triple Mercury V8 300 Verado outboards producing 900 hp from the factory, and is rated to up to 50 knots; for model year 2026 Axopar added a twin Mercury V10 400 hp option delivering 800 hp combined at 45 knots, freeing aft-deck space for water-toy stowage and wider bathing platforms. The GRP hull uses vacuum-infused stringers and a twin-stepped form that keeps fuel burn to approximately 4.1 l/nm at cruise. By mid-decade Axopar had delivered more than 7,500 boats through a 100-plus dealer network across more than 50 countries; the 37 was the most sold outboard-powered boat in the 35-40 ft segment in the United States in 2024. We'd put the 45 range alongside Nimbus and Princess at a price point that remains meaningfully competitive for the specification delivered.
