In Their Words

Captains, owners,
repeat clients.

Working with John and the team was a very professional and thorough process. Over a period of several months they presented a range of options, taking the time to fully understand both the owner’s expectations and the operational requirements from a captain’s perspective. Their patience and attention to detail ultimately helped us identify the right chase boat for the programme. The delivery process was smooth and well organised, and the boat is already proving to be a great addition to the yacht’s operations. I would happily recommend them to any captain or owner looking for a well-considered solution rather than just a quick sale.

They oversaw the build at the yard like it was their own boat. We took delivery on time, on spec, and the after-sales has been exceptional.

We are delighted with the end result and look forward to working with the team again in the future.

What's the difference between a tender and a chase boat?
A tender is the auxiliary boat that ferries owners and guests from the superyacht to shore - typically slower, more comfortable, often a limousine or beach lander. A chase boat is a separate, high-performance support vessel that follows the mothership at speed, carrying water toys, additional crew, and chasing larger yachts to inaccessible anchorages. Most large yacht programmes carry both.
What size tender does my yacht need?
As a working rule, the largest tender on a superyacht is around 10–15% of the yacht's LOA, but the limiting factor is usually the garage opening or the davit's safe-working load. We measure both and work backwards from there.
What is a SOLAS tender?
A SOLAS-compliant tender meets the IMO Safety of Life at Sea Convention requirements for a yacht's primary lifeboat. Yachts over 500 GT typically need at least one SOLAS-rated rescue boat with type-approved fittings, davit and certification. We'll specify the right route through MED, RYA or class society sign-off.
How long does a custom tender build take?
Most production yards quote 9–14 months from contract for a customised model. A fully custom hull and deck programme runs 18–24 months. Order slots are tightest in winter and after major boat shows.
What does a superyacht tender cost?
Pre-owned RIBs and small jet tenders begin around €150–300k. New-build limousines and beach landers typically run €400k–1.4m. Flagship chase boats sit in the €1.6–3m range. Pricing is driven by hull material, engine package, certification, finish level and yard slot.
Cat A, B or C - which certification do I need?
Most owner and crew tenders are Cat C (coastal, up to Force 6). Chase boats and beach landers running long passages or open ocean often need Cat B (offshore, up to Force 8). Full Cat A ocean rating is rare but available. We'll match the right route to your programme.
How does the survey and sea-trial process work?
For a new build we attend factory acceptance, then a full sea trial with the yard's test programme - speed runs, electronics commissioning, lifting trials. For a pre-owned purchase we instruct an independent surveyor and oversee the in-water and out-of-water inspections, with a separate sea trial under your nominated captain.
Can you assist with VAT, importation and registration?
Yes. We work with established yacht-tax specialists in the EU and the US, advise on the right ownership structure, and coordinate flag and registration. For commercial-use yachts we handle the temporary importation routes (TPA, IRC, etc.) so the tender doesn't trigger VAT mid-season.
