About this tender

Castoldi 25 - what we know.

The JT 25 is the size we recommend for owners on motoryachts in the 65m to 80m range who want a serious guest tender that can carry up to sixteen passengers without compromise. At 7.5m LOA and 2.6m beam, it sits in the same beam class as the JT 21 but is meaningfully longer, with the deck volume and waterline that brings. The Yanmar 4LV250 diesel coupled to a Castoldi Turbodrive 284 H.C.T. waterjet delivers 38 knots top speed in light-load configuration and 35 knots fully loaded.

Sixteen-passenger Cat C certification is the operational headline. For yachts with regular charter programmes or large guest groups, this is often the right size to reduce shuttle frequency and improve guest experience. Build standard, hull material and tube construction are consistent with the rest of the Castoldi range; the difference is in the size envelope and the Turbodrive 284 waterjet, which is the larger waterjet variant matched to the higher hull weight.

Highlights

Built for the work.

The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.

01

Yanmar 4LV250 and Turbodrive 284

Yanmar 4LV250 marine diesel at 250 hp running at 3,800 rpm, paired to a Castoldi Turbodrive 284 H.C.T. waterjet with hydraulic clutch, movable grid and Clear-Duct unclogging. Top speed is 38 knots light, 35 knots fully loaded. The driveline is sized for the boat's weight and design intent.

02

Sixteen-passenger working capacity

Cat C certification supports sixteen passengers, with the deck layout to back this up. The 7.5m LOA gives genuine space for the full passenger count without crowding, which is the operational reason owners step up from the JT 21 to the JT 25 on yachts hosting larger guest groups.

03

Larger yacht garage fit

7.5m LOA and 2.6m beam matches the standard tender envelope for motoryachts in the 65m and above range. For owners on a refit or new build looking to step up tender capacity, the JT 25 is often the right answer between the JT 21 and the much larger JT 28 or 34.

04

Italian build standard

Built in Castoldi's factory near Milan with full in-house process control. Hand-laid Kevlar and vinylester laminate hull; sandwich-construction deck and console; in-house waterjet manufacture. Build consistency is at the top of the production tender market and supports straightforward insurance and class society acceptance.

Questions, answered

Before you enquire.

JT 25 or JT 28?
The 28 is 1.1m longer with a 3.0m beam and a higher fuel capacity, but uses the same Turbodrive 284 waterjet and a similar driveline philosophy. For owners on yachts at 70m and above where the larger envelope works, the 28 gives a step change in deck volume; for yachts in the 65m to 75m range the 25 is often the practical choice.
Why the bigger Turbodrive 284 over the 240?
The 284 waterjet is sized for the higher hull weight and passenger load of the JT 25. Using the smaller Turbodrive 240 would leave the boat underpowered at full load and would compromise both top speed and reverse-thrust manoeuvrability. The 284 is the appropriate engineering match.
What is the realistic working operating envelope?
Diesel waterjet drivelines are meaningfully more economical than equivalent petrol-outboard alternatives at the same speed, particularly with sixteen passengers aboard. Expect a working day range adequate for full guest programmes including beach landings, with mothership bunkering covering longer cruising windows.
How does the boat handle beach landings with a full load?
Waterjet propulsion gives controlled approach in shallow water without prop damage, and the Clear-Duct unclogging system handles weed and debris. With a full sixteen-passenger load the practical landing depth is limited by the hull draft of around 0.8m rather than the waterjet itself; for very shallow beaches plan around tidal state.

Castoldi

Albairate, Italy

Castoldi is an Italian manufacturer headquartered in Albairate, in the Milan metropolitan area of Lombardy. The company has been developing waterjet propulsion since the early 1960s, with the first mass-produced Castoldi waterjet unit presented at the Genoa Boat Show in 1969. Today more than 40,000 Castoldi hydrojet units operate worldwide, across civilian, military, and commercial fleets.

The range we ask Castoldi for runs from compact garage-fit tenders at 4.3m right through to the flagship Jet Tender 34 at 10.5m - sixteen passengers, twin 440 hp diesels paired to twin Turbodrive waterjet units, and a certified top speed of 50 knots. Every model in between follows the same build logic: deep-V hulls hand-laid in Kevlar and vinylester resin, Castoldi's own Turbodrive waterjet drives manufactured in-house, and a package of practical details - retractable helms, self-bailing cockpits, and walkthrough deck layouts - that captains value on a working programme.

The propeller-free drivetrain is the defining feature of any Castoldi. No exposed rotating parts below the keel means safe operation around swimmers and watersport guests; zero draft restriction means beach landings and sand-bank crossings that a conventional-drive tender cannot attempt. SOLAS-certified rescue versions (JT 14 RB, JT 18 RB, JT 19 RB) sit alongside the standard tender line, so owners running a dual-purpose programme can specify a single platform. We'd put the mid-range JT 21 through JT 28 models alongside the main European jet-tender alternatives: the build quality is consistent, the proprietary waterjet technology is genuinely in-house, and the range breadth covers most mothership garage sizes without compromise.
