About this tender

Goldfish - what we know.

The Goldfish 50 Ocean is the build we point owners to when they want the Goldfish hull engineering on a hull big enough to do real distance work, day-boat, weekender or chase boat depending on the layout chosen. 14.9m length, 3.8m beam, full carbon construction, twin-engine driveline with a real options spread from twin Mercury 4.2 TDI sterndrives at 370hp to twin Mercury Racing 9.0 1100s on surface drives at 1,100hp each.

What this boat is for is express cruising at speeds that other 15m hulls cannot sustain. Goldfish quote 60-knot-plus top with the surface-drive package, 50 knots on the smaller sterndrive variant. 1,000-litre fuel tank gives a quoted range of 500 nautical miles plus, depending on configuration. The carbon hull is what makes the speed-and-range combination work, the boat is significantly lighter than a comparable GRP build and the smaller engine packages perform like bigger ones because of it.

Highlights

Built for the work.

The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.

01

14.9m carbon hull, twin-engine

Length 14.9m, beam 3.8m, full carbon construction. Twin-engine driveline with a serious options range, from twin Mercury 4.2 TDI on Bravo IIIX sterndrives at 370hp each, through twin FPT N67 at 570hp, to twin Mercury Racing 9.0 1100s on surface drives at 1,100hp each.

02

60+ knot top speed

The surface-drive 1,100hp configuration gets the 50 Ocean to 60 knots and beyond. The 740hp sterndrive variant tops out around 50 knots. Both numbers are fast for a 15m hull, and neither requires the compromise on accommodation that a pure race boat would demand.

03

Day-boat or weekender layouts

The 50 Ocean can be built as a fully open day boat, a two-cabin weekender, or a functional chase boat, all on the same hull. Up to ten guests on day duty, sleeping space for four in the cabin variant, with a single head. The owner picks the brief at order, the hull does not change.

04

Fastest in class on fuel

Goldfish claim the 50 Ocean is the most efficient in class, with a range of more than 500 nautical miles from the 1,000-litre tank when configured with the smaller engines. That is a direct consequence of the carbon hull, lighter boat, smaller engines, more range. The argument is engineering, not marketing.

Questions, answered

Before you enquire.

Why specify a 50 Ocean over a Riva or Pershing at the same length?
Performance and range. Riva and Pershing at this length are sport cruisers tuned for guest experience, the 50 Ocean is tuned for actual distance and speed. The Italian alternatives are cleaner on interior fit-out and probably hold value better, the Goldfish is the better answer for an owner who actually uses the speed.
Surface drive or sterndrive, which one?
Use case. Surface drive on twin 1,100s is the right choice if the owner genuinely wants 60-knot capability and is prepared for the higher service complexity and fuel burn. Sterndrive at 370 or 570hp covers the typical owner brief at 50-knot capability with simpler service and lower running costs. Most production builds went out on the smaller sterndrive packages.
Is the 50 Ocean still in production?
The original 50 Ocean is no longer in current production. Goldfish's current range centres on the X-series. The 50 Ocean is available on the used market and remains a relevant boat because the carbon hull engineering does not date in the same way that a GRP hull might. Pre-purchase survey including engine hours and a hull moisture map is essential.

The yard

Goldfish

Son, Norway

Goldfish Boat AS is a privately owned Norwegian yard founded by Pål Sollie in 1991, operating from Son on the western shore of the Oslo Fjord, approximately 50 km south of Oslo. Sollie came to boat-building through offshore racing - he placed second in the 1991 World Championship - and that pedigree shapes every hull the yard produces. The original ambition was handmade racing boats; today the range spans high-performance RIBs, centre-console sportsboats, and open cruisers from roughly 7.0m to 15.0m, covering the Tender, Sport, Bullet, Ocean, Open, and utility X series.

In the superyacht-adjacent market, roughly a third of Goldfish production targets the tender and chase-boat segment, where the RIB format gives owners a platform that works equally hard as a watersports tool, a crew runabout, and a high-speed passage boat. The Bullet line - running to the 46 Bullet and 49 Bullet - is the build we'd put alongside dedicated chase programmes: stepped multi-hull geometry, a choice of inboard or outboard drivelines, and performance figures that reach the high-double-digit knot range depending on engine specification. The Ocean series, typified by the 43 Ocean, trades some top speed for a more lounge-centric deck and offshore range. Hulls are glassfibre or carbon composite; the yard backs its laminate with a ten-year hull warranty. Goldfish's largest single client is the Royal Norwegian Navy, and that dual civilian-military build discipline keeps tolerances tight across the leisure and superyacht catalogue.
