The SR 77 represents a significant step up in scale for Windy, a builder better known for its SR 44 and SR 52 semi-custom sport cruisers. At 23.98m LOA it moves the brand into territory where it will be considered alongside dedicated chase-boat specialists and custom yards - and that is precisely how owners and captains evaluating it should approach the conversation.
Malcolm McKeon naval architecture and exterior design
Both the naval architecture and exterior styling are credited to Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design Ltd. CFD analysis footage published on the Windy site suggests the hull form has been developed with some rigour at speed. The published top speed of 46 knots carries the caveat "subject to selected options, load case, sea state and hull conditions", which is appropriate transparency for a vessel of this displacement. Interior design is described as fully bespoke, specified in dialogue with the Windy team on a per-order basis.
Two propulsion options, two characters at sea
Windy offers two distinct drivelines. The triple Volvo Penta D13-IPS 1350 configuration brings three IPS drives to bear - a layout that suits owners who value manoeuvrability, fuel economy at cruise, and ease of docking without a dedicated captain. The alternative is twin MAN V12-1800 units paired with waterjets, prioritising top-end performance and a different dynamic feel at speed. Both options are listed on the published spec sheet; fuel tank size - and therefore the 600nm range figure - is noted as variable by option.
Deck layout and accommodation
The upper deck carries an aft social area with lounge and dining, a helm station, enclosed deckhouse, and walkaround passages. Below, the lower deck floor plan shows twin engines at the stern, a crew cabin, multiple guest cabins including double aft cabins and a forepeak cabin, en-suite bathrooms, a galley, a lower saloon, and a spiral staircase connecting the two levels. The layout reads as a vessel that can credibly accommodate overnight guests independently, rather than functioning purely as a chase platform.
What this means for your programme
If your mothership runs a tender garage that tops out at 12-14m, the SR 77 is a chase-and-stay vessel deployed from a mooring or marina berth rather than lifted aboard. At 23.98m and 48.5 tonnes, it will need a credible crew of at least two and a berthing plan at each destination. The 2028 launch date means early dialogue with Windy now is the appropriate step for any owner wanting delivery in that window - configuration decisions around propulsion, interior specification, and deck arrangement will need to be locked before build commences.
