About this tender

Williams SOLAS 625 - what we know.

The Williams SOLAS 625 is the build we ask Williams Jet Tenders for when a programme demands full SOLAS certification without sacrificing the handling qualities that make a jet tender worth operating day to day. At 6.32m on the waterline, it carries eleven persons and fits comfortably aboard yachts of 40 metres and above. The 230hp Yanmar 4LV diesel drives a jet pump rather than exposed propeller hardware, which matters operationally when you are working crowded swim platforms or rocky landing stages.

The SOLAS specification here is not a sticker on a standard hull. Williams has engineered the 625 with fire-retardant resin and gel coat, SOLAS-specification tubes with lifeline, a manually activated righting system, capsize-protected fuel system, emergency manual tiller arm, and the full complement of SOLAS rescue equipment. A hi-visibility cover with retro-reflective tape replaces the bimini options you would see on the DieselJet 625 range - capsize and man-riding regulations make that a non-negotiable trade. If your safety management plan requires a vessel that a flag state inspector will pass without question, this is the specification to quote.

On the navigation side, Williams fits a Raymarine Axiom 7-inch MFD with depth sounder and chartplotter as standard, alongside a helm-mounted type-approved magnetic compass, VHF radio, and position indicator light. The helm console folds for low-profile stowage, dropping overall height from 1.60m to 1.29m, which matters when your tender garage has a tight clearance. FlexiTeek decking, leg bolsters, and stainless steel grab handles round out a build that we would put alongside the better European SOLAS tender offerings without hesitation.

Highlights

Built for the work.

The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.

01

Full SOLAS certification as standard

The 625 ships with SOLAS-specification tubes and lifeline, fire-retardant resin and gel coat, a manually activated righting system, capsize-protected fuel system, and the complete SOLAS rescue equipment kit. It is specified for yachts of 40 metres and above, and is built to satisfy flag state inspection requirements rather than merely comply on paper.

02

230hp Yanmar diesel jet drive

A single Yanmar 4LV diesel driving a jet pump delivers a quoted top speed of 74 kph. The jet format removes exposed shaft and propeller hardware, which reduces risk when operating around swimmers and in confined boarding situations - a meaningful operational advantage over sterndrive and outboard-powered SOLAS tenders.

03

Low-profile folding helm console

The folding helm console with bonded windscreen brings overall height down from 1.60m to 1.29m, giving captains a useful margin when specifying against a garage with limited air draft. Quick-release steering wheel and in-floor lifting system are included as standard fitment.

04

Raymarine Axiom 7 navigation suite

Standard fitment includes a Raymarine Axiom 7-inch MFD with integrated depth sounder and chartplotter, a type-approved magnetic compass, VHF radio, and position indicator light. Optional AIS and an additional chartplotter are available for programmes that require enhanced situational awareness.

05

Comprehensive standard equipment list

Williams ships the 625 with FlexiTeek decking, automatic fire extinguisher, auxiliary battery, battery isolator, four-point lifting pad-eyes, ski hook, towing kit, lifting strops, and a full set of SOLAS safety consumables. Very little is left to the options sheet for a vessel that needs to be operational from delivery.

Questions, answered

Before you enquire.

What does SOLAS certification mean for the 625 in practice?
The SOLAS 625 is built to the Safety of Life at Sea standard required for commercial and superyacht tender operations under flag state oversight. That means fire-retardant construction, SOLAS-specification tubes with lifeline, a righting system, capsize-protected fuel, emergency tiller, and a full safety equipment kit. It is specified as the tender for yachts of 40 metres and above where classification society or flag requirements demand a SOLAS-compliant rescue craft.
Why does the SOLAS 625 use a jet drive rather than a propeller?
Williams fits a jet pump rather than an exposed propeller or sterndrive across the DieselJet range. Jet propulsion removes the risk of propeller contact with swimmers or tender crew during boarding, reduces maintenance exposure to underwater hardware, and allows the boat to operate in very shallow water. For a SOLAS-certified rescue craft that may be deployed rapidly in an emergency, those characteristics are operationally relevant.
What is the low-profile height of the SOLAS 625 and why does it matter?
With the windscreen folded, the SOLAS 625 stands 1.29m overall. This is the figure to check against your tender garage air draft. At standard height with windscreen up, the boat measures 1.60m. The folding helm console and quick-release steering wheel are standard fitment, so the low-profile configuration requires no additional parts.
Are bimini or spray dodger options available on the SOLAS 625?
No. Williams explicitly states that bimini, spray dodger, single-point lift, and MCA-compliant hi-vis patches are not offered on the SOLAS 625 because capsize and man-riding regulations supersede those fittings. Hi-visibility covers with retro-reflective tape are provided instead. Tube, upholstery, and gelcoat colour options are also restricted and require prior approval.
What navigation equipment is fitted as standard?
Standard fitment includes a Raymarine Axiom 7-inch MFD with depth sounder and chartplotter, a helm-mounted type-approved magnetic compass, VHF radio, and a position indicator light. Optional additions include a second chartplotter and AIS. The instrumentation is specified to meet SOLAS operational requirements rather than being offered as an upgrade.
Is the SOLAS stretcher included with the boat?
No. Williams states clearly that the SOLAS stretcher is not included and must be provided separately. All other SOLAS rescue equipment is supplied as standard, including the buoyant rescue quoit, thermal protective aids, first aid kit, and portable fire extinguisher.

Williams Jet Tenders is a British manufacturer founded in 2004 by Roy Parker and brothers Mathew and John Hornsby, building out of an 80,000 sq ft purpose-built facility in Oxfordshire, England. The company traces its roots to a converted garden shed in rural Oxfordshire where the Hornsby brothers began handcrafting boats in the mid-1990s; the formal company registration followed in September 2004.

Williams is the build we ask for when an owner's programme demands a jet-propelled tender that earns its keep across the full yachting day - short transfers, watersports, and heavy guest loads alike. Their proposition is volume: six ranges, seventeen-plus models, covering yachts from 38ft to 40m and above. The entry-level TurboJet and SportJet lines use BRP Rotax petrol engines and jet drive propulsion with no exposed propeller, carrying up to seven passengers at speeds into the upper-forties of knots. The DieselJet range steps up to Yanmar inboard diesels and seating for six to twelve, suited to larger platforms. For programmes running a 40m-plus mothership, the EvoJet 70 is the build to specify: a 7.0m waterjet-powered craft with inboard diesel, seating for thirteen, and multiple boarding locations. SOLAS-compliant variants of the 505, 565, and 625 cover mandatory life-safety requirements for yachts over 500GT without abandoning the standard Williams fit and finish.

Every hull is hand-built by a dedicated team and undergoes an on-water test procedure before dispatch. Williams holds strong factory-fitment relationships with Princess, Sunseeker, Fairline, Azimut Benetti, Ferretti, and Sanlorenzo, with many production models dimensioned specifically around a Williams garage. We'd put the brand alongside the best-supported tender choices in the market at this price tier.
